We are reviewing the DDPAI Z60, the newest dashcam from DDPAI that got recently released.
In the past we have reviewed the 2 previous models of the Z series of dashcams from DDPAI, which both offered much better specs and performance than the competitors at the given time and at a similar price range.
We will test and evaluate in this DDPAI Z60 review to see if the latest generation is able to withhold the price-performance ratio that the older siblings used to provide.
The DDPAI Z60 sits as the flagship dashcam from the company, despite the friendly MSRP.
The DDPAI Z60 can be bought in several different bundle combos:

• DDPAI Z60 3-channel triple camera
• DDPAI Z60 3-channel full bundle with hardwire kit and GPS module

Design
Fortunately, the brand has brought back a design element that the DDPAI Z40 had but that was removed from the Z50; this is a quick-removal plate design for the main dashcam. With this you can easily put and remove the Z60 without having to be limited to a fixed-installation system – you can even remove it each time that you park your car.
The body and overall shape of the DDPAI Z60 has been totally redesigned in comparison with the older Z50 and Z40. The footprint is now larger, thicker and heavier but with the new design you are gaining a better screen and buttons layout and the needed internal space for the upgraded core elements and components.
As with the previous gens. the DDPAI Z60 has a tiltable front lens to fine-tune the desired angle and view coverage of the front dashcam’s recordings.
The rear of the DDPAI Z60 is where you find the display screen and 4 physical buttons while the on the edges you can see a microSD card reader slot (left edge) and a USB-C and 2.5mm connector (for addons) on the right edge – unfortunately the brand has ditched the rubber gasket protection that the older models used to have for the card slot.
On the top, bottom and front you will also see some cutouts on the shell; these works as speaker out/mic and ventilation holes.
The DDPAI Z60 measures 83×64.7×36.5mm.
If you get the same full combo like us, you will be getting also the DDPAI MINI2X dashcam to use as a 3rd camera for the setup. This dashcam has a tube-like, compact design with also a swiveling optical section to adjust the aiming of the recordings.
The left end sports a MicroSD card slot and a USB-C port and the right cap has a single button.

Technology & Specs
On each new generation of the flagship dashcams under the Z-series, DDPAI introduces always noticeable upgraded tech, specs and features.
In the case of this newest DDPAI Z60 model, the dashcam has been empowered with a true 4K video recording resolution of 3840×2160 matched with a 6-lens optical unit with a large f/1.8 aperture and 140 degrees of coverage.
It is fair to highlight that these specs correspond to the main Z60 unit, the 3rd bundled cam DDPAI MINI2X records at a resolution of 2K, f/1.55 lens aperture while the rear cam is limited to 1080p, 125 degrees and an aperture of f/2.0.
Built-in, the Z60 also offers a GPS module for accurate tracking and real-time driving related info (speed, time, etc.)
In order to sense, monitor and detect collisions, the DDPAI Z60 is equipped with gyroscope modules and G-sensors abnormal impact movement triggers the automated recording security system.
Being part of the flagship series, the Z60 also includes an internal supercapacitor which provides a buffered recording after turning off the dashcam and ensures safer working temperature tolerance.
If you are techy-obsessed user, this time DDPAI does not specifies the imaging sensors used inside the Z60, nor details the CPU, RAM, etc.

Operation & Control
The main unit in the DDPAI Z60 bundle has 4 physical buttons to take care of the initial setup, pairing with the app and also for any daily main control and settings of the device.
On top of that physical buttons, the DDPAI Z60 is fully compatible with the DDPAI mobile app, which unleashes the full-potential and finer-control of the dashcam and all the additional 2nd, 3rd cams and any addons like the 4G-Cloud Box and advanced features.
Thanks to a smart inter-connectivity system named πlink, all the 3 cams are linked to the main unit with synced recordings and complete operation and control from the app through the interface of the main Z60 unit without having to go back and forth through the different paired cams.
On the 3rd cam bundled, the DDPAI MINI2X you have a single multi-function button that serves to operate and link the unit with the main Z60.
The only detail that we do not love about the control system of the DDPAI Z60, is the physical buttons design; which are all identical in size, form factor and have not labeling to identify each one.
Apart from these buttons, the rest of the control and operation of the DDPAI Z60 with all extra cams and bundles is easy and cumbersome-free through the app and also through voice commands.

Security
Inherited from the other flagship dashcams, the DDPAI Z60 uses D2 Save Dual Storage which benefits from a 2-storage system that utilizes the internal 32GB eMMC as a fail-safe backup storage for the main available storage of the removable MicroSD card – in case of a card failure. The brand also uses a smarter individual footage recording on each cam.
In case that is required for details about an incident, the videos recorded with the DDPAI Z60 also save info such as speed, location, time, date and detailed GPS tracked info (altitude, coordinates)
Of course, as seen on the older siblings, the new Z60 uses the loop automated recording and storage space management where it will automatically record over older videos when the storage of the microSD card is full – this ensures that you never run out of storage space for the most recent recordings.
On top of that, collision recordings are locked and not overwritten.
With the hardwire power kit the Z60 bundle gets powered directly from the cars battery/fuse system and not with the car lighter adapter, once you use this kit you will gain access to 24 hours parking recording with 3 different parking monitoring modes:
1. 1 channel time-lapse for 8 days
2. 2 channel time-lase for 2 days
3. 2 channel collision monitoring for 20 days
If you purchase also the 4G-Cloud Box (and add any SIM card with a data plan) you can benefit from several added layers of security like:
• Collision alerts
• Remote monitoring of the cams
• Remote control of the cams
• Cloud upload and access
• Instant automated alerts if your car gets outside of the defined boundary zones
It could be considered also a security system, the inclusion of ADAS 2.0 driving assistance in the DDPAI Z60, which provides real-time driving info, suggestions, alerts and recommendations.

Screen
On top of all the upgrades seen on the new DDPAI Z60, the screen has also received a remarkable upgrade being now much larger with a diagonal size of 3 inches and resolution boost to an IPS panel able to provide 1080 Full-HD.
Being an IPS panel, the screen has excellent viewing angles without suffering from image negativization nor limiting the contrast, sharpness and colors.

It is remarkable how many cams you are getting with 3-channel variant of the DDPAI Z60; basically you do not only get the main Z60 front cam and “standard” rear cam but you also get a second full 2K dashcam model from the brand, the DDPAI MINI2X.
The second dashcam included in the 3-Channel bundle it is marketed by the brand as a cabin cam to be installed facing the internal space of the car towards the driver and other people sitting inside the car but this is not limited to this; you can actually install and point the MINI2X wherever you want to.
In fact, we found more useful installing the 2nd cam as either a complimentary 2nd dashcam facing either forward or as a better quality rear cam than the standard included with the Z60 – 1440p vs 1080p.
To enhance the quality of dark, night recordings, the DDPAI Z60 now uses NightVIS 2.0 and AI powered imaging processing; you can see the quality of the night recording in our photos below.
Of course, as with any cam and sensor, night recordings have lower fine-resolution and some artifacts but if the night recordings are done in well-lit city paths, the difference between night and day recordings is less noticeable.
If you come from a 1080p or 720p dashcam you will instantly notice that the fine-detail and overall image quality of the DDPAI Z60 recording far exceed the possible resolution achievable of your older HD and Full-HD cam.
Reading the lettering/numbers and details of vehicle registration plates involved in any collision and/or recording are easily readable in the videos captured by the 4K cam of the Z60, even at nighttime.
Analyzing the overall performance of the recordings we can say that the Z60 shows a noticeable image improvement over older models and can fulfill the needs of users looking for a security system and possible evidence if any collision or worse happens.

Connectivity
The DDPAI Z60 has gained a massive boost in the connectivity department, including now 5GHz Wi-Fi wireless connection able to provide up to 13MB/s data transfer speed.
On top of that, the unit has a built-in Bluetooth 5.4 module for BTLE wireless connection with your phone and 4G.
Regarding physical connectors, the main DDPAI Z60 unit has:
• USB Type-C for power
• 2.5mm jack for the bundled rear camera
The DDPAI MINI2X 3rd dashcam, instead has:
• USB-C for power
As mentioned in the Operation & Control section, the cams works seamlessly and synced to each other through the DDPAI πlink system.
The new, faster wireless connection of the DDPAI Z60 is now Wi-Fi 5GHz, to pair wirelessly to a mobile device and enable all advanced features.
GPS and 4G (through SIM card) connectivity are available, with GPS coming built-in inside the main Z60 unit and 4G being an optional addon to purchase (in our case included); which is the DDPAI 4G-Cloud Box.

Installation
Hardware Kit: the installation is feasible to be completed by users with a confident knowledge of the fuse-box and battery connections of their cars but if you are not fully confident, we do recommend to get the hardware kit installed by a professional.
On the other hand, the installation of the main dashcam unit and rear plus 3rd cam is intuitive and user-friendly, even for noobies.
Basically, you place the electrostatic stickers where you want the cams to be fixed and then proceed with the straightforward cabling and power connection.

Speaker
As with every other flagship dashcam from DDPAI, the DDPAI Z60 has a built-in speaker for audio notifications, ADAS feedback and all audio out related-tasks.
The speaker has a loud and clear audio output quality that makes it hearable in any normally noisy commuting situation.
Maybe not important but we were happy to see that DDPAI has changed the annoying sound that the Z40 and Z50 had at boot.
