Epomaker Magforce 68, a compact, premium keyboard from Epomaker, sporting hall-effect magnetic switches.

Still to date the market has way more mechanical keyboards options than the more advanced ones with hall-effect switches; so, it is always nice seeing a new model being introduced with this modern switches tech.

We have reviewed a plethora of keyboards from Epomaker and nearly all of them have offered excellent performance at an honest price.

The Epomaker Magforce 68 is a 65% ANSI US layout keyboard with 68 keys but no knobs.

Around 80% of the front edge of the case has a 45 degree angle design that we found to be unexpectedly more ergonomic-friendly and comfortable when resting the palm/hands over it than straight-out 90 degree angles.

On the bottom you will find 4 silicone elongated feet that did a very good job keeping the keyboard in place and slippery-free.

Because of the all-black case with black keycaps and no color accents nor plates, the Magforce falls into the “classic”, clean aesthetic category but if you love colorful keyboards, you could find it a bit dull – of course, you can always buy a colorful keycap set and customize it.

The Epomaker Magforce 68 can only be chosen in 1 color option: black.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD

From photos you will not be able to appreciate the superb build that this tiny keyboard offers.

In fact, the whole case of the Epomaker Magforce 68 is entirely constructed in a hefty amount of CNC aluminum with no single part using flimsy plastic nor ABS details.

Moreover, the brand has assembled the case with easily accessible screws (and provide a corresponding hex key) to allow owners a user-friendly disassembly of the unit for modding or hardware customization.

Internally, the Magforce 68 follows the premium construction with components that include a hot-swappable board, FR4 plate, top-mount design, plate-mount stabilizers and a multi-layer dampening system including:

• Poron sandwich foam
• Bottom foam
• EVA foam

KEYCAPS

The keycaps of the Magforce follows the all-black color design with shells entirely in black and using black fonts.

Consequently, the white over black provides an exceptional level of contrast for easy readability – even on low-lit environments.

The set has Cherry profile, which matches well the classic look of the case and overall feel of the keyboard.

As expected with this level of keyboard, the keycaps are not cheap ABS but are made of double-shot PBT material.

Being magnetic switches, they offer all the superior benefits over classic mechanical switches like the complete actuation customization and re programming.

Seeing how most of the keyboards from Epomaker are released, you might think that the Epomaker Magforce 68 is tri-connectivity keyboard with wired and wireless modes; but this is not the case for the Magforce as this is a wired-only model.

Despite this, the wired connection has a detachable cable system with a modern USB-C port and even more important, the brand has achieved 8000Hz of polling rate, 32kHz of scan rate and just 0.125ms of latency through this wired connection.

LIGHTING

The board has south-facing RGB LED lights that can be customized through software.

These backlit LED add a nice colorful detail to the all-black keyboard and enhances also the usability on very dark rooms or at night.

SOUND

As always, keyboards with magnetic/hall-effect switches have a totally different sound profile than classic mechanical keyboards. Usually, you cannot expect thock out of this type of more modern keyboards.

The Epomaker Magforce 68 has a delightfully semi-silent personality with a subtly half-muted click/clack per keypress that makes it sound kind of unique but still with a satisfying sound profile.

Issues such as resonance, pinging and hollow sounds are absolutely absent in this keyboard.

On top of that, the stabilizers came perfectly pre-lubed making them perform responsively and rattle-free.
