DESIGN

The Epomaker TH99 is a nearly full-sized mechanical keyboard with a 1800 layout in a 96% ANSI variant that includes 102 keys but no rotary encoders.

In comparison with keyboards having a 100% layout (like the Skyloong GK104Pro), the Epomaker TH99 is a substantially smaller (in width) device that compresses and nearly deletes the unoptimized space found in the navigation block of a TKL and larger keyboard – something similar with the Epomaker Cypher 96, Epomaker EK98, Fantech MaxFit Air99)

Nonetheless, between the main keys and numpad, the TH99 fits main navigation keys and the 4 arrow keys.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Epomaker TH99 feels light and refreshing due to the use of pastel colors combined with mainly white sections and combining a dual-colored case with a top case in white and a mid and bottom case made of pastel light blue color.

Unlike other larger keyboards (Epomaker RT100, Akko 5098B, MCHOSE K99, Keydous NJ98 and NJ98-CP), the TH99 does not have any kind of dedicated status LED lights nor additional display screens.

The Epomaker TH99 is a plastic made keyboard as all the shell makes use of ABS plastic with a 2-piece case build.

In spite of not using metal as the material choice for the case, the TH99 uses a thick amount of ABS and feels rugged and durable with no cheap, nor flimsy sensation.

Inside, the keyboard boasts premium components such as:

The keycaps of the Epomaker TH99 follow the color theme of the case with a combined color shading of white, blue, purple in a pastel gradient.

The set has Cherry profile and are made of thick double-shot PBT material, ensuring fade-free lasting life.

To the touch, the keycaps have a nice, finely textured grit that is gentle and smooth to the touch but adds an efficient layer of anti-slippery qualities.

The Epomaker TH99 can be chosen in 2 color but there are no choice options for the switches. The model comes from factory with linear switches.

The exact switches pre-assembled in the TH99 are the Epomaker Creamy Shade.

The Creamy Shade switches showed clean, scratch free characteristics and noticeably heavier feel than what you get with Epomaker Wisteria switches.

Personally, we liked the heavier but responsive nature of the Creamy Shade switches for a phenomenal typing experience and a lower typing error rate.

The Epomaker Creamy Jade switch perform, sound and respond impressively well; yet, it is a pity that the TH99 does not come offered with more than one switches model pre-assembled from factory.

The limiting factors for a mobile setup (if these are relevant to you) will be the size of the 1800 layout and weight (at 2kg).

If these 2 are not important to you, then the Epomaker TH99 will be a very good keyboard for your mobile device with much more keys coverage and usability than smaller keyboards.

LIGHTING

The south-facing RGB backlit board offered a nicely embellish effect over the light-colored case and keycaps; the overall light feel seemed very similar to what we saw while reviewing the Epomaker Cypher 96.

Through shortcuts and software, you will get full access to presets and customizations of the RGB lights and dynamic effects.

SOUND

The Epomaker TH99 with Epomaker Creamy Jade switches surprised the team with a remarkable thock sound (with a poppy tint) right out of the box with no customizations nor modding needed.

To be honest, it is very hard to find a plastic keyboard at this price point that can achieve the same premium sound profile as the Epomaker TH99.

On top of that, the TH99 never showed traces of pinging, rattling stabs nor any type of echo and resonance.

At the same time, the stabilizers per perfectly pre-lubed from factory being responsive and never mushy.

SOFTWARE

Unfortunately, the Epomaker TH99 uses a different PC software than the standard Epomaker Software “hub/central”; if this your only Epomaker keyboards, then it will not be an issue but if you own others that rely on the standard version from the brand, then you will need to have 2 separate PC software for each keyboard.

Nonetheless, you can expect complete access to every single setting, programming, lighting customization and overall personalization from this PC software too.

Inside, the Epomaker TH99 sports a 4000mAh battery to power the unit while in wireless modes.

The battery capacity is not as massive as on other large keyboards but is decent for the type of keyboard.
