ACCESSORIES & PACKAGING

3/5
The Fantech Shooter III is shipped in a fairly simple packaging that includes inside:
• USB-C cable
• Wireless dongle
D
DESIGN

3.75/5
The Fantech Shooter III has a classic Xbox controller design and layout with the alternated row for the 2 thumbsticks and the use of A, B, X, Y pattern for the main buttons.
In total, the gamepad offers 13 buttons, one D-pad and thumbsticks with no rear RL, ML programmable buttons nor a trigger lock.
The central positioned button with the shape of the Fantech logo is used to wake-up the gamepad and to control the pairing process – this is the only detail across the whole device that has a LED light.
When holding the Shooter III on your hands you will notice that the gamepad is so light that almost feels like an Xbox controller without the batteries inside, so you might think that there is not internal battery but it actually sports a rechargeable Li-ion battery.
The FANTECH Shooter III can be purchased in 4 different colors:
• FANTECH Shooter III white
• FANTECH Shooter III black
• FANTECH Shooter III5 pink
• FANTECH Shooter III Super MaxFit (retro color)
We have to admit that the specific color variant of the Shooter III is probably the least exciting of all the color options and the retro-color one being quite good looking sharing the style of the recently reviewed Fantech MaxFit Air keyboard.
Similar to other gamepads from the brand, the Fantech Shooter III does not have a dedicated power switch, having to rely on the automatic standby and power-off design of the device.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD

4/5
The gamepad is entirely made of plastic and will not give a feel of a premium device but the textured, grippy finish feels and looks inline with an Xbox controller.
Nonetheless, you might not expect that such a cheap-priced gamepad hides inside hall-effect triggers, hall-effect thumbsticks, gyroscope sensor for motion detection and intensity adjustable rumble motors.
In spite of being a fairly basic built gamepad, none of the buttons wobble nor rattle and the shell never showed cracking noises when using it intensively.
C
CUSTOMIZATION

3.75/5
From an usability point, the Shooter III offers a respectable customization potential for the asking price; where 12 of their buttons are programmable and accepting on-the-fly macros recording.

On the other hand, there is no software to access a more friendly programming and hardware on the gamepad is not customizable nor any addons come bundled with the unit.
CON
CONNECTIVITY

4.5/5
The Fantech Shooter III might be the cheaper sibling of the gamepads from the brand but it includes a new, smarter dongle with a dual adaptable connector to benefit from either USB-A or USB-C connections, expanding its compatibility with more devices.
Thanks to the internal Bluetooth chip, bundled dongle and USB-C detachable cable, the Shooter III becomes a triple-mode gamepad to connect with multiple devices with either of the 3 connectivity modes.
A strange detail is that the Fantech Shooter III is detected as “MSI G4X” when using the built-in Bluetooth connection.
P
PERFORMANCE

4/5
Costing less than the basic Xbox controller, the Fantech Shooter III presented a remarkable performance thanks to its 1000Hz polling rate for faster, more responsive use and access to macros and buttons programmability.
For users looking to spam press the main A, B, X, Y buttons, you will notice that the membrane buttons have a noticeable tactile travel being less friendly than the ones of the EOS PRO and NOVA PRO.
On the other hand, the D-Pad is way smoother than the one of the Manba ONE gamepad which was annoyingly clicky.
Another net improvement and better performing features were the hall-effect thumbsticks, internal motion sensor and triggers that were not only more precise than an Xbox gamepad but also having miles better RT and LT spring force and feedback.
B
BATTERY

4/5
A benefit from the simpler design with barely any LED lights and no display screen allows the battery runtimes to be longer than many other gamepads.
The internal 600mAh rechargeable battery can provide as much as 20 hours of gameplay on a single charge.
