Design

The machine is fairly well-sized for a 1200ml paint sprayer which makes it substantially larger than a reciprocating saw or jigsaw and more inline with an electric hand planer.

Nonetheless, this HYCHIKA Paint Sprayer is much smaller and easier to handle than other paint sprayers having an external 2nd motor unit and hose connection.

A smart design decision was made for the HYCHIKA Paint Sprayer as all the front piece is detachable by the press of a red button placed on the top of the main shell. This eases up the cleaning and setup process of the machine; also all the main sections of this front piece are “modular” and can be detached, unscrewed and disassemble for optimal cleaning of all the parts and avoid any future clogging.

Construction & Build

The HYCHIKA Paint Sprayer has a pure copper motor with a rated power of 600W and HVLP for better atomization of the paint.

The machine can handle several different paints as long as the viscosity sits within the maximum handling capacity of 100 DIN/s (min. 25 DIN/s) – to prepare the viscosity of the paint you have to use the included viscosity cup/funnel and refer to the table in the user manual to measure the correct time/viscosity equivalencies.

The external shell of the paint sprayer is made of plastic and, also, all the front detachable section is entirely constructed in plastic – of course, as expected from the nozzles, each one has a rubber gasket inside.

Overall the 2 meter cable is fairly ok for of paint sprayer but users mainly intending to paint rooms might want a longer cable; obviously you can always connect a power cord extension to fit your needs.

A side-note, all paint sprayers need some after-work maintenance and post-cleaning to keep the machine in good working condition.

Ergonomics

We pointed out that the tool is mainly made of plastic but this came with a positive result when evaluating the ergonomics and handling of the machine as the non-metal case, made it consequently lighter than many other paint sprayers; which is a fantastic thing to find in a power tool that you will be holding for (probably) hours.

Overall, the paint sprayer is comfortable to use with a long and rubberized grip and a good balance when the paint barrel/bucket is full – the machine does become back-heavy when empty or nearly empty.

A detail that one of our editors found was the she felt the trigger to be too far for her small hands; she was able to reach it but did had to strain the index finger a bit more than she would had preferred.

On the other hand, we liked the easy accessibility of the flow-rate knob, pattern control and spray level width adjuster.

Performance

As with any paint sprayer, a correct dilution to adapt the paint to the exact viscosity needed and combined with the matching spray nozzle are essential to achieve optimal results and allow the power tool to spray the paint evenly.

After paying careful attention to reach the viscosity of the paint for our tests, we proceeded to paint 10 pieces of 4×2 wood with a length of 4 meters which were previously cut at 45 angle to become long French cleats to be installed in the deposit of the office. The job was carried smoothly and easier than it would had been with a brush or roller.

On top of that, the completion of the job took exponentially less time than it would had taken to paint even a single piece instead of the 10 pieces painted at the same time in a just a pair of spraying back and forth.

A couple of days after these wood pieces painting we followed the tests by repainting a small 15 square meter room from a dark colored wall paint into a full-white paint; this task was even more gratifying than painting the wood pieces as the full room painting time was laughably fast when compared to what it took us to paint the same room in the past with rollers, brushes and all the extra accessories needed in comparison.

For the wall-painting test we found that the adaptable spray pattern was a game changer as we could set in a breeze the output of the machine to better paint the angles of the wall-ceiling and then on-the-fly re-change it to be optimized to paint the main flat wall/ceiling sections – we did notice, though, that the “circular” pattern position does not have any click/lock confirming tactile feedback so you have to test and ensure that you rotated the pattern system to the right position.

It is also worth mentioning that before each job, we did some pre-painting tests to finely adjust the flow-rate (through the dedicated knob) and spray jet width lever to ensure even coverage and no paint splatters nor drips.

Also consider that paint sprayers need some manual technique or learning curve to get the best results.
