DESIGN

The Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar has a stylish design with a non-flashy aesthetic thanks to a space-grey finish and acceptably minimal branding visibility. To match the main light bar, the included remote control shared the same color and elegant design with the use of black and space-gray colors.

Since this is a dual light bar, the device has 2 LED lighting strips; one on the bottom that will illuminate the working desk and a top one that serves as an environment light towards the back of the monitor, wall and ceiling.

The front LED is a warm/cold temperature adjustable light while the rear one is RGB.

To install it, the light bar uses a bracket with a counterweight design; in order to be versatile and adapt to nearly any monitor design and width, the brand opted for bracket that does not fully clamps to the monitor but balances through its counterweight element on the back and a sticky section that sits on the back of the monitor area.

Inside the main front light bar section there are 88x 0.2W LEDs while the back strip has 32x 0.2W LEDs.

The light bar has a main shell made of metal and only plastic details found in the end caps and diffuser panels but the bracket/clamp is mostly made of plastic.

Surprisingly, the remote control has excellent build and feel with a combination of a main case constructed in metal and a top section that seems to be some sort of acrylic but that feels like glass – the only plastic parts are the bottom case.

To avoid any slippery issues, the bottom of the remote control has 3 rubberized feet that proved to be very efficient.

The remote control is powered by 3xAA batteries (included with the product) while the light bar gets powered by a detachable USB connection.
The main power system is compatible with standard 5V USB power supplies.

OPERATION & CONTROL

The complete setting of the light bar and all of its functions are controlled through a rounded wireless remote that comes bundled with the light bar; the light bar itself does not have any in-body buttons nor controls.

This wireless remote comes paired from factory and works out of the box with the light through a 2.4GHz connection.

The remote gives access to color, brightness, power and presets selections for the front and back strip lights inside the light bar.

All the controls are touch sensitive and well-labeled with icons that do not require any guess work besides the “+” and “-” intervals highlighted with dots, which might seem to be also touch sensitive or gesture-enabled but instead they are not. The increment or reduction of brightness and temperature is controlled by pressing the dedicated plus and minus icons.

On top of that, all the icons/buttons are back illuminated with an orange colored light that is easy to see but not disturbing nor excessively bright.

The 88x front LEDs can be set in a range of 12 levels of brightness as well as 12 levels of cold/warm temperature range – you can single press them an gain quick access to 4 pre-set temp/brightness levels or press and hold to go up or down through the 12 levels in 1-step at a time.

The back facing 32x LEDs are, instead, RGB and can be either turned on or off but cannot be controlled in brightness nor user-manually controlled RGB combinations. The RGB colors and effects can be chosen from pre-made presets (15 in total) and switched by the single press of the dedicated RGB button placed on the remote control.

PERFORMANCE

The main tests of the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar were performed in a flat, 43 inch monitor and despite being that the 51cm of the light bar do not physically correspond to the full width of the monitor, the lighting coverage and illumination was even larger than the large desk used for this PC/monitor setup.

When firstly installing the light bar and counterweight bracket/clamp we were not fully convinced about the grippiness and stability of the system but after testing different clamping positions the light bar felt balanced enough.

Moreover, we noticed that the sticky section of the clamp got stickier the longer it stayed in placed without moving it and consequently giving the light bar and clamp a miles more secure and stable fit.

The first thing the we welcomed with this Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar was the fact that the wireless control did not need any pairing steps nor any future re-pairing fiddling around – still, a manual pairing process is enabled in case that something goes wrong.

From the very first utilization of the remote control and the light bar, we were glad to find that the remote’s touch sensitive controls were responsive and snappy enough without missing touch inputs.

To adjust the angle and preference of each user to get the desired illumination of the desk and avoid any reflections on the monitor, the light bar can be rotated on the clamp/bracket.

The fact that the front light bar was adjustable in temperature in a range from 3000K to 6500K made it a great companion to set and change according to the time of the day and desired visual effect. We were also happy to find out that the back light is not limited to colorful RGB presets but also includes a pre-made all-white one that can make the back lights adaptable for an even, calm illumination as well for work and productivity.

Furthermore, we found a smart decision from the company to make the front and back lights independently controllable and even allowing users to use the unit with one or the other turned on/off or both at the same time turned on.

From our tests, we were able to find a correct angle for the light bar in a matter of seconds and getting literally zero glare over the monitor’s panel – even with non-matte finished monitors.

On top of that, the light bar incorporates details that might seem less important on paper but do a significant difference on daily use; like the fact that the remote control memorizes the last status of light bar (including the temperature and brightness)

A characteristic that you might expect to see more in LED lights for photography and video is the CRI of the LED light emission; oddly, the Quntis light bar has a high CRI of 95Ra, which consequently results in higher color rendition accuracy and final quality.

POWER CONSUMPTION

The Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar has a good balance between power consumption and illumination with a max. rated power of 9W.

The company recommends to power the light bar with a USB power supply able to provide 10W of power outpu but we were even able to power the light bar directly from a capable USB port of our desktop PC without the need of any extra power supply.
