Periodic Audio Mg Magnesium
| Magnesium Dynamic Driver | Neodymium Magnets |
? Periodic Audio Mg Magnesium, an earphone with clean design but powerful specs.
The Periodic Audio Mg features neodymium N48H magnets, Magnesium diaphragms and a whopping maximum power handling of 200 mW.
To date, the brand offers 3 models: Mg, Be, Ti. The Magnesium name of the model being reviewed in this article, corresponds to the material used for the diaphragm inside the unit (96% Mg), this naming logic applies also to the Be (Beryllium diaphragm) and Ti (Titanium diaphragm).
The housings of the Periodic Audio Mg have a clean design and metal back plates that add a highlight detail.
The cable is rounded and very rubberized but in the edge of becoming too simple for the price – yet, this has also been seen on high-tier models such as the Sony MDR-EX800st and Sony MDR-EX1000

Accessories & Packaging

The unit comes inside a rectangular box with the frequency response curve printed inside.

B
Bass & Sub Bass
The Periodic Audio Mg Magnesium bass is vigorous and impacting.
Their mid-bass is very punchy and sub-bass can get as deep as needed by any track.
Despite the strong mid-bass response they do not show the typical bounciness of earphones with this amount of punch.
Expect a very exciting and fun sound coming out of the Periodic Audio Mg.
Applying an EQ, an insane amount of sub-bass is added and substantial extra punch shows up too.

The Periodic Audio Mg Magnesium was able to manage 45% a FiiO A5 amplifier maximum power showing an exponential increase of punch and depth and a respectable amount of rumble and impact, yet not enough to compete with the Sony MDR-EX800st
, Pioneer SE-CX8
, Pioneer SE-CX9
or the Sony MDR-EX650

M
Mids & Vocals
The Periodic Audio Mg Magnesium mids have very warm and full mids but with a noticeable amount of mid-bass bleeding into the transitional lower midrange.
Most of these bleeding gets over lower mids adding some congestion to their lower midrange and male vocals – despite this, male vocals sound sufficiently present.
Higher mids are much cleaner than their lower mids, with good crispness but no forward tuning nor harshness.
Listeners looking for very warm vocals and midrange will probably like the Periodic Audio Magnesium.
A custom and fairly advanced EQ can level up the mids of the Periodic Audio Mg making them much more refined, with drastic reduction of mid-bass bleed, empowering of their male vocals and keeping their peaks free of harshness.
7.5/10

H
Highs & Treble
The Periodic Audio Mg Magnesium highs resolve a nice amount of detail and have a warm/slight darkish personality.
On the other hand, their highs tuning might show mild sibilance and piercing peaks that are not uncomfortable nor extremely frequent.
Their higher frequencies respond very well to custom equalization providing a brighter and detailed sound with also a more open sound personality while not showing stronger fatiguing peaks
7.5/10

SL
Sound Leak
