? QCY has many bluetooth earphones on the market and the QY8 is one that has gained a lot of reputation for the overall good sound and accessible price. The QCY QY8 are the successors to the already well diffused QY7, they opted for the same housing design but with a less colorful and more refined black-silver or white-silver colours. They are still made entirely of plastic and despite their big size they are light weighted.

The right earpiece of the QCY QY8 has a volume up and volume down control on the edge of the housing, a microphone for phone calls and a main power/pair/play/pause big button on the outside with the QCY logo. The left earpiece holds the microusb port to charge it, protected by a rubber “door”. The QCY logo can light on blue or red to inform different status of the earphone, like: charging, low battery, pairing mode, etc. There are also voice messages to inform you that it has been turned on, turned off, entered pairing mode and connected or sound notices to tell you that you have reached maximum volume on the earphone. Volume control is independent from the source, so usually it is better to max out the volume on the source and then control it from the earpiece. Battery levels are read and informed on the newer iPhone and iPad generations but not on Android devices.

The QCY QY8 come in a cardboard box with 4 eartips, 4 ear wings to improve fit and a microusb charging cable. The packaging box is very similar to the one of the GeekRover iEPW020/021.

Bass & Sub Bass

The QCY QY8 has surprisingly punchy, deep and fun bass. The bass and sub-bass that the QY8 achieve is excellent, music will always sound rich, warm and entertaining. Mid-bass has a lot of punch and presence and sub-bass gets surprisingly deep. If you custom equalize for bass response the QCY QY8 will exponentially enhance mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth.

The amount of bass impact and rumble coming from this bluetooth earphones is incredible, when basshead equalized you even get a slight basshead level rumble and ear canal shake; way above of what you can get from the Remax RM-565i when eqed and connected to an amplifier and below of what you can achieve with the KZ ATE amplified and eqed. If we compare bass and sub-bass impact while basshead equalizing and not amplifying, the QCY QY8 surpasses any other of the non-bluetooth earphones on our database.

Mids & Vocals

There is some perceivable harshness on the upper mids of the QY8, not excessively as to become fatiguing but could be an issue if you are sensitive to high mids. Lower mids instead are somewhat recessed mostly fault of mid-bass bleeding onto them.

Highs are present but still recessed, detail and definition can be appreciated though they are far from being the brightest earphone you can get. They are not piercing and there are no sibilant peaks at any time.

Sound Isolation

The QY8 isolate exceptionally from any outside noise that could be on your surroundings, noise levels clearly decrease so you do not need to turn up the volume too much to block noise.

Comfort

Comfort and fit of the QCY QY8 is very good overall, they are not too uncomfortable or produce soreness. When doing medium to high intensity activities the big size of the earpieces and constant movement of the cable can move the earpiece slightly in your ears needing to be readjusted and better fitted once in a while.

Response to Equalization

The QCY QY8 respond outstandingly to custom equalization. Highs can be emphasized without issues and no sibilant or piercing presence will arise.

Mids can be “fixed” perfectly by equalizing up frequencies from 300Hz to 900Hz (depends on your sounding taste) and mids and vocals will get much more presence without sound boxy at all. A combination of the aforementioned mids equalization with a slight reduction on the frequencies from 1kHz to 3kHz makes a perfectly vivid, present, full bodied and smooth mids and vocals. Bass response gets an amazing exponential emphasize with custom equalization; mid-bass punch and sub-bass impact and depth reach incredible levels.
