The QKZ KD5 features one 30095 balanced armature + a 9 mm dynamic driver, a beryllium composite film and double flange eartips.

The housings of the QKZ KD5 are constructed in metal.

The QKZ KD5 unboxing results in 3 pair of eartips and the usual hard carrying case that comes included with every QKZ earphone, this case is almost identical to the one of the JVC HA-FX1X.

Bass & Sub Bass

The QKZ KD5 bass is super punchy and deep enough – truly, punchier than deeper. Their overall bass is very boosted and boomy. People looking for energetic bass might like them but they are way too overdone.

Applying an EQ, their mid-bass muffles everything and sub-bass gets saturated.

Mids & Vocals

The QKZ KD5 mids have a very odd sound, super strong mid-bass bleed, very distant, tinny lower mids / lower vocals and very harsh higher mids. We are not sure how they matched up every possibly negative aspect of mids frequencies and packed them all together.

An EQ makes no improvement and can easily add up boxy sounding mids.

Highs & Treble

The QKZ KD5 highs are bright and very piercing, detail is not resolved and sibilance shows up recurrently. With their super piercing and sibilant highs they have created a deafening earphone that is impossible to use.

No EQ could “repair” or improve their poor highs performance.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the QKZ KD5 is inline with most average earphones, their level will not be too strong if you keep your volume within moderate.

Sound Isolation

Noise isolation is noticeable and fairly effective, more or less similar to an average earphone. They will not provide an absolute isolation at a low and moderate volume setting.

Comfort

The form factor of the housings and metal construction combined with the double-flange eartips makes them comfortable to wear. There are no rough edges or uneven pointy ends.

Response to Equalization

Equalization was useless to level up and/or to diminish their very accentuated flaws. Lower, middle and upper frequencies responded poorly to every combination of custom equalization applied.
