The RevoNext NEX202 features a very large 12 mm Titanium alloy dynamic driver and a single balanced armature driver per side.

The earpieces of the NEX202 have a 2 piece metal build. On the rear section, a metal grid can be easily seen – this could suggest a semi-open back design, though we will find it out later on through out the review and tests.

Accessories & Packaging
The RevoNext NEX202 comes with 3 pair standard of eartips, 3 pair of foam tips, a 3.5mm plug cap, a Velcro cable organizer and the detachable cable.
The unit comes inside a similar packaging as the only other earphone of the “NEX” line, which is a medium-sized, rectangular box with the earpieces being placed on foam cutouts.

Cable
The cable of the RevoNext NEX202 is detachable with 0.78mm bi-pin connectors.
This connector end is angled and not straight like seen on other bi-pin cables – which many users prefer over the straight ones.
The cable itself has a double helix design with a rubberized finish and a matching color with the earpieces.
All the details of the cable such as the cable bifurcation, connectors and L-shaped 3.5mm sections are made of plastic – including the remote/mic.
Talking about the remote, the RevoNext NEX202 can be bought with our without an inline mic/remote. For the minimal price difference, we consider that getting the version with the remote will be a better choice for most, even more considering that the remote has 3 buttons with dedicated volume buttons.

Construction Quality and Build
The RevoNext NEX202 is part of the rugged models from the brand, being that the construction of the earpieces is fully made of metal like the RevoNext QT2, QT3, QT2s, QT5 and NEX602 and not plastic like the RevoNext RX8s, RX8 or T1.

Bass & Sub Bass
The RevoNext NEX202 has punchy mid-bass and excellent sub-bass depth, which will grant a response with the ability to never fall short of bass on nearly any genre or track.
Still, the NEX202 bass is able to avoid getting boomy nor drowning their sound signature.
In fact, the bass of the NEX202 is substantially tight for the given impact provided – quite surprising performance here.
With an EQ, both their mid-bass and sub-bass can be pushed into a powerful punch and depth becoming a more bass-centered sounding earphone.
Through out our extreme basshead tests, the RevoNext NEX202 handled up to 40% of a FiiO A5 maximum power. Consequently, the increment of both punch and depth were so intense that even some basshead rumble and impact was unleashed but not as intense as on the models in our Basshead Chart.

Mids & Vocals
The RevoNext NEX202 has warm mids with alive male vocals and noticeably controlled congestion.
Their midrange shows no excessive mid-bass bleed, helping it’s overall sound to avoid becoming too busy nor disturbing.
Furthermore, their higher mids are crisp and clear with only some harshy peaks when shouty vocals spikes are present, but we wouldn’t consider them annoyingly sharp.
Using an EQ, both extremes of their mids can be retuned and squeeze an even cleaner sound without feeding up their harshness.

Highs & Treble
The RevoNext NEX202 highs are bright and resolve a very good amount of detail.
Their tuning is quite well-achieved and even more open than the bigger brother, RevoNext NEX602.
Pretty impressive given that the NEX202 has less “specialized” balanced armature drivers than the NEX602 but achieves a bit better overall sound experience for non-treble sensitive.
Analytical readers might be interested in knowing that despite having a technically similar midrange frequency response measurement as the NEX602, the different tuning over their highs and the more open design than the NEX602 gives it a different sound balance that many might find more engaging.
Applying an EQ, both brightness and detail can be enhanced with a general opening up of their highs but some piercing and sibilance could start to become more frequent.

Sound Leak
The sound leaking out of the RevoNext NEX202 is somewhat inline with most average earphones, we could even say that they do leak a bit more.
This is due to it’s semi-open headphone; this kind of design has been also seen on the NEX602, but the NEX202 is more open and consequently it’s leakage is higher too.

SI
Sound Isolation
Usually open-back design and sound isolation are 2 features that do not match. Nonetheless, the RevoNext NEX202 is able to provide a very efficient isolation despite the semi-open/open back.
Expect a partial isolation a bit stronger than on most normal earphones.

Comfort
The RevoNext NEX202 have a very slim profile that allows them to achieve a flush fit with the ears.
Being so, the NEX202 fit combined with the 3 button remote/mic, makes it a smart choice for under-the-helmet use, daily commute and while resting the head on the palm.
The curvy forms with no sharp edges and metal material makes it very comfortable to wear for hours. Fair to remember that the metal build will not be ideal if you live in icy cities.

EQ
Response to Equalization
We could say that the NEX202 is “cheating” here, because of the great starting point of their sound tuning right out-of-the-box, facilitating fine-tuning and polishing.
Indeed, mids, vocals, highs, treble and bass showed good response to EQ and substantial effect over them.
