B
Bass & Sub Bass
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 earphone has a low bass presence. There is some mid-bass going on but sub-bass does not show at all. There is no depth or impact coming from the sub-bass. Trying to boost the bass and sub-bass frequencies with a custom equalization has no effect over depth, impact or punch.
There is some mid-bass going on but sub-bass does not show at all
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 earphone seemed to have no chance competing on the basshead race, we pushed them anyways with a basshead equalization and driving them through a Fiio E12 portable amplifier with the bass boost switch on and set to high gain. They could handle 50% of the maximum power of the portable amplifier without distortion and to the surprise of the whole team, bass punch and a slight basshead rumble came out from nowhere. Considering the absolute lack of bass they were providing, they gained an incredible increment in mid-bass punch response and some sub-bass depth.

M
Mids & Vocals
Mids are recessed but the lack of bass presence makes them still sound not recessed nor muffled. Mids and vocals are never harsh nor fatiguing and can be safely emphasized with an equalizer.

H
Highs & Treble
Highs are present with medium recession; they are not piercing nor sibilant. Definition and detail can be perceived without too much effort. If required, they can be marginally emphasized with a custom equalization and they still do not become piercing.

SL
Sound Leak
The sound that leaks out of these earphones is noticeably above average, leakage levels are unacceptable for many situations. You will not be able to keep much or any privacy on your listening sessions.

SI
Sound Isolation
Fitting is loose and gives space for too much reduction on their capacity to isolate from surrounding environmental sounds. They fail substantially on this assignment.
4/10
C
Comfort
The Note 4 iem are very light and fairly small, they fit easily and quickly and are very comfortable. No soreness at all is felt even after wearing them for very long time. They fit well inside the ears despite not having the tightest fit or the greatest noise isolation.
8/10
EQ
Response to Equalization
The Samsung Note 4 iem respond fairly to eq of high frequencies, they can be emphasized slightly without falling into sibilance or pierce. Mids and vocals equalization can be mildly brought forward and they still don’t sound boxy. Bass response to eq instead is ineffectual, there is no response at all no depth or impact is gained (unless you also connect them to an amplifier)

Summary
Highs and Mids are very respectable and far better than many other budget earphones
Comfort is great
Are free with your Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Bass is too recessed and needs an amplifier to get some bass response
Sound leakage is too high
- The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 earphone has showed that they can deliver a very respectably sound quality, better than many budget earphones on the market. They perform well mostly on the high and mid frequencies. They will disappoint if you look for strong bass, instead if you like less prominent and flatter bass you will be happy even more considering that they are “free”.
